The Power of Six by Pittacus Lore

(Caution: Spoiler alerts ahead.)

     There are nine aliens on earth from the planet of Lorien. The first three of them are dead. These aliens look like us and act like us but they are very different. They have powers that we don’t and they are being hunted down by another group of aliens. They are the Mogadorians, from the planet of Mogadore. In this book, John Smith, who is number Four, his best human friend Sam, and number Six are on the run to find the remaining six who are from their planet as well.

     The interesting thing is that the characters are both working together as well as against each other. They have to work together to survive, but they have their own expectations and goals. Sam wants to find out what happened to his father. Six wants to rejoin the group to fight off the Mogadorians. John, at the end of the book, wants to see his girlfriend, Sarah, and to do that, he ends up sacrificing all of the powerful gems he once that were in his chest, which the Mogadorians took. Marina, who is number Seven, wants to get out, find her true self and fight off the Mogadorians. It is these personal goals that separates them as a group and hurts their chances of survival.

    Along with that, there is also competition for love. John has a girlfriend named Sarah but she turned him into the cops (Ouch…). And she suspects the he has feelings for Six…. Which he does…. And to top it all off, John knows that Sam likes Six too and vise versa.

    Now the only thing I’m hoping for is that Six knows number Nine, who was captured by the Mogadorians and caged for over a year, and maybe they had a past. This is because then it would cause challenge for John. Sam is out of the question; Six would probably never date him in her life. They are too different and don’t really get each other. He probably has a chance with Marina, though. She hardly knows much about the world and Sam knows A LOT. Six needs a guy who will be there for her and not run off to meet his some-what, sorta, kinda, girlfriend (cough, cough, evil death stare). She isn’t really interested in anyone with a brain because she has one of her own that works perfectly. She is a leader and belongs with someone willing to follow. Sorry John, but that’s you. You don’t really know what you’re doing and needed to be guided. It’s not your fault; Henry kept you locked up for too long, trying to keep you safe and, as a result, you don’t have much experience as some of the others like Nine and Six.  This is another reason Nine and Six should date; they are similar but Nine is way out of control. (Wow, I’m really off track).

     Anyways, I learned from this book (and a frog dissection experiment) that the best way to get something done is to get the main goals of the team done first and than personal goals.
