Who Are The Antagonists in This Book?
(Note to reader: This blog post contains lots of Spoilers.)
This month, I read a science fiction/fantasy book called Gone, by Michael Grant. In this book ,there is a wall in the shape of a circle and everyone in it who is over 15 mysteriously disappears. they call it the FAYZ, which stands for Fallout Alley Youth Zone. The idea of this blog post came to me when I was reading the blog of a classmate of mine, Laurel (http://laurelcsim.blogspot.com/). In her blog post, she talks about all of the possible protagonists in her book. Well, in my book, there in only one protagonist, Sam Temple. But there are lots of people who want him dead because he is a threat in power. Everyone, well most, of the kids, look up to him and want him to lead them. All of the antagonists in the book are cruel to Sam, his friends Edilio and Quinn, his girlfriend, Astrid, and her brother, Petey, who is autistic. But who is the main antagonists? The first antagonist mentioned is Orc, Howard, and Panda. They first appear on page 51, where they act tough, telling Sam not to try to fight them for power because they are in power. They say that they will rule the town and they all like power, but they are nothing but cowards. They go to Caine's team when he comes in. They fear him. The only reason Sam fears them is because they are bigger than him and can beat up him and his friends.
There is also Diana. She is Caine (5th paragraph) to-be girlfriend. The only reason he has her is because she has a power that lets her determine how much power everyone else has. She knows Caine will kill anyone who tries to hurt her and by anyone, I mean Drake (next paragraph). He would love to bite her head off and vise vera. That's why she sticks with Caine most of the time. She knows that she is more valuable to Caine than Drake because she has a power and Drake hates it because he knows it's true. The only reason she won't kill him is because than Caine will kill her. She also doesn't want Sam to die because if Sam dies, Drake will come for her. She also enjoys to be needed and likes to take control of people below her, like Computer Jack.
Then there is Drake, who is mentally sick. There isn't one person in the book who will disagree with that. He likes power and enjoys to see people be tortured. Sadism, as Diana says, it's called. He also can't stand Diana. He wants to control Sam and make everyone fear him. He forced Astrid to say "My brother is a retard" to her brother's face and shot Sam when he got the chance to. He is literally way past insane. He is very cruel.
Caine is the leader of the Drake and Diana and people like them. I think that he is the main antagonist. He is feared because he has a power and is very controlling due to it. He uses his power for more power. He hates Sam because Sam is as strong as him. He wants people to work for him and become leader of them. I think this is because he was as bully and a popular because of it.
Throughout the book, I kept hoping (and still do) that Caine will end up good, but so far, nothing. But I'm know of one person, or thing, that is sure to stay evil. It's this thing that they call The Darkness. It can go into any one's mind and control them. It's a glow of light that has more power than anything else. It sends a shiver down my spine.
I hope that you read this book because it's so good. After and/or if you have read it, tell me what you think. And who do you think is the main antagonists?
I read the entire series, except for the second book. Your guess as to the main antagonist isn't far off, but Caine doesn't turn out to be the worst living thing Sam and his friends face. I liked your response- it was very detailed.
